Services and Resources

Goals of Minnesota Chapter HDSA

  • Promote and support research to find a cure for HD.
  • Help those affected by the disease and their families.
  • Educate the public and healthcare professionals about HD.

The Huntington's Disease Society of America is a national non-profit voluntary health agency that is dedicated to finding a cure for HD while providing vital services to improve the lives of those affected by and support and guidance for HD families through our national network of volunteer-based chapters and affiliates as well as through our newly created Centers of Excellence.

Soon after the legendary folk singer, Woody Guthrie, lost his battle with HD, his widow Marjorie, sought out other families affected by this devastating disease.  In 1967, this handful of dedicated volunteers formed the Committee to Combat Huntington's Disease.   Today, the Huntington's Disease Society of America continues the mission that Marjorie Guthrie began.  HDSA has grown into a national organization consisting of 32 community based volunteer chapters, two national field directors and a national office that provides leadership, support and guidance to our HD families.

HDSA is a member of the National Health Council, National Voluntary Health Agencies, National Organization of Rare Disorders, Alliance of Genetic Support Groups, Health Care Quality Assurance, Independent Sector and International Huntington Association.

The HDSA Chapter Social Worker can provide training and education to people interested in HD. Maybe your clinic or nursing home needs more understanding of the disease. Maybe you're a member of a community group who's interested in more information. If you would like to schedule an inservice, contact Jessica Hancock at jhancoc1@good-sam.com.
